Are You A Yuccie?

by Jun 11, 2015

In high school I never quite fit into one group. I was the hippie goth girl who did drama club, prom and homecoming committee, the school newspaper and yearbook committees and even volleyball for a year. Since I had friends in every group, I managed to defy the labels. You would think after high school you could escape the idea of being labeled based on your clothes, your musical choices, or even your drink choices, but alas, the world has created the concept of Yuppies, Metrosexuals, Lumbersexuals, and hipsters.

Labels still exist. And what is worse – I think they have found the one closest to describing me.

Enter the Yuccie. Created by Mashable to herald the death of the hipster, the “Yuccie” or Young Urban Creative is defined by Mashable as, “…a slice of Generation Y, borne of suburban comfort, indoctrinated with the transcendent power of education, and infected by the conviction that not only do we deserve to pursue our dreams; we should profit from them.”

“They’re social consultants coordinating #sponsored Instagram campaigns for lifestyle brands; they’re brogrammers hawking Uber for weed and Tinder for dogs; they’re boutique entrepreneurs shilling sustainably harvested bamboo sunglasses.”

Not sure if you fit into this “label”? Take Mashable’s Are You A Yuccie Quiz and find out!
